(From my experience at the studio, not just theory)

"A tattoo is 50% artist, 50% healing. Don’t ruin a masterpiece with poor aftercare."
First of all, congratulations on your new tattoo. Whether this is your first ink or you already have many, I always tell my clients one thing clearly: the healing phase decides how your tattoo will look for life.
At Ink Wizards Tattoo Studio, I’ve seen beautifully done tattoos heal perfectly—and I’ve also seen good tattoos get damaged because aftercare was ignored. This guide is exactly how I explain tattoo healing to my own clients, in simple words.
On average, a tattoo takes 2 to 4 weeks to heal on the surface. Deeper skin layers can take a bit longer, but if you follow proper aftercare, your tattoo will stay sharp, vibrant, and smooth.
Poor aftercare can lead to fading, patchy ink, infections, or even scars. That’s why this part matters just as much as the tattoo itself.
(What I See Every Day)
Understanding what your skin is going through makes aftercare much easier.
Your tattoo is a fresh wound.
👉 Don’t panic. This is your body starting the healing process.
This is where most people get nervous.
⚠️ Do not scratch or peel. This is the most common mistake I see.
Scabs are gone.
Your tattoo is healing even if it looks fine on the outside.
This is exactly what I recommend after every session.
Cling wrap / pad: Keep it on for 2–4 hours. Once removed, don’t re-bandage.
Second skin (Saniderm-type): First piece stays for 24 hours. If fluid builds up, contact me before changing. Second piece usually stays 3–5 days.
Wash your tattoo 2–3 times daily.
Days 1–3: Apply a very thin layer of ointment (like Aquaphor or A&D). Only when the tattoo feels tight or dry. If it looks shiny, you used too much.
Day 4 onwards: Switch to fragrance-free lotion. Apply 2–3 times daily. Perfect for itch control and skin repair.
Less is more. Over-moisturizing is a common mistake.
